ROLLA, Mo. – It was a career day for
Laura Thomas, as the senior exploded for 37 points to fuel a second-half comeback in the UIndy women's basketball team's (18-8, 11-7 GLVC) 90-75 victory at Missouri S&T (7-18, 3-15 GLVC) on Saturday.
Â
Thomas was just two points from matching the single-game program record of 39, while hitting eight of her last nine field goals.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhound reversed their fortune after halftime, scoring 35 points in the third quarter – one off from program mark of 36 in a single period. Rookie deep threat
Marissa Knobloch caught fire in the frame, drilling three from 3-point range to give UIndy a 38-35 advantage.
Â
Despite the team trailing by 16 points at the break, Thomas led all scorers with 19 points and did not fizzle when the Hounds began to hit their stride. The New Castle, Ind., product scored 18 more in the second half, including 13 in the third period alone.
Â
The Hounds scored 55 points in the second half, while limiting the Miners to just 24. UIndy finished the win shooting 53.2 percent from the floor, and sunk 50 percent of its 3-point attempts in the second half (seven for 14).
Â

HOUND BYTES
Head coach Kristin Wodrich
"I was really proud of Laura; she was the one that spoke up at halftime. When she did that, we knew the second half was going to be much better.Â
"We had to take away something and we got aggressive. These kids want to win, and everyone kept fighting in the second half."

UP NEXT
