GAME 1 | UIndy 5, Lake Erie 1
UIndy hung a combined four runs in the third, fourth and fifth frames to pull away from the Storm (0-4). The action was highlighted by an RBI double by
Brooke Montgomery and an inside-the-park home run by
Gianni Iannantone, her second in as many days.
Â
In the circle,
Hallie Waters (5-1) pitched around an unearned tally in the second to earn her fifth win of the young season. The junior from Boonville, Ind., fanned four and walked only one in four innings of work. Sophomore
Amy Kaniewski finished the game with three strong innings, earning her first collegiate save.
Â
Iannantone also roped a triple versus Lake Erie, while
Sydnie Foster notched two hits and a pair of runs.
Â
GAME 2 | ODU 5, UIndy 4 (8 inn.)
The Hounds put up a three-spot in the fifth inning and took a one-run lead into the seventh, but the Panthers (4-6) would go on to score an unearned run in the seventh and two more in the eight to ultimately earn the comeback win.
Â
Senior pitcher
Lauren Honkomp (2-1) endured the loss. She pitched all eight innings, striking out six, but five runs allowed (three unearned) proved one too many.
Â
Freshman
Emily O'Connor made the most noise at the plate for UIndy. With two on in the fifth, the New Pal product delivered a towering shot to center field that would have easily cleared the Baumgartner Field fence. She settled for a double in spacious Grand Park, driving in two of her three ribbies in the game.
Â
She later recorded another clutch RBI double in the eighth to pull the Hounds to within one, though she was eventually stranded at third base.
Iannanonte had two more knocks in game two, upping her on-base percentage to an even .500 on the season.
Â
UP NEXT
UIndy is not scheduled to compete again until March 7 when they make their annual Spring Break trip to Florida. The Hounds will play eight games in the Sunshine State, starting with a meeting with Minnesota State.
