LIBERTY, Mo. - The UIndy women's basketball team put their four-game winning streak against William Jewell Saturday afternoon in the Mabee Center. A big second quarter lifted the Cardinals over the Greyhounds as they were able to hold on to the lead for the entire second half, beating UIndy 72-56.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a closely contested first period with both teams each making six shots from the field, the difference came from beyond the arc where four of Jewell's six buckets were triples to lead 16-14 after one. The second quarter belonged to the Cardinals as they went on a 15-0 run including four-straight made three-pointers. The Hounds would just make one field goal in the period as Jewell would score 22 points on 53 percent shooting as the home team took a 38-20 lead into the break.
Â
William Jewell kept their foot on the gas out of the break as the Greyhound defense could not get a stop to try and spark a comeback in the third quarter. The Cardinals 21 point lead heading into the fourth quarter was too much for the Hounds to overcome in the final ten minutes as UIndy's four-game winning streak came to an end with the 72-56 loss on the road.
