HAMMOND, IN – The University of Indianapolis opened the 2021 Midwest Region Crossover with a pair of losses on Friday. The Hounds suffered 3-0 losses versus No. 17 Hillsdale and Grand Valley State to move back to 10-10 on the season.
MATCH 1 vs. No. 17 HILLSDALE
The Chargers took a two-set lead after a 25-16 win in the first set and 25-10 win in the second.
Hannah Huppenbauer opened up the third set with a kill for the Hounds followed by a service ace from
MaKenna Barnhart gave UIndy a 2-0 lead.
UIndy utilized a 5-1 run to jump out to a 12-9 lead. Huppenabuer and
Elizabeth Eads both tallied kills in the run. The Chargers used an 8-0 run to regain the lead and take the set 25-16.
MATCH 2 vs. Grand Valley
UIndy dropped the first two sets 25-16 and 25-7 to fall into a two-set deficit. The Hounds went on a 5-0 run early in the third set to take an 8-2 lead.
Grace Hegwood served up back-to-back aces in the run.
Madi Rosenberger served up another ace to put the Hounds ahead 14-10 but the Lakers scored the next five points to regain the lead. Trailing 21-18,
Emma Jones halted Grand Valley's momentum with a kill to cut the deficit to two. The Hounds hung tough in the end, not allowing the Lakers to tally any consecutive points but Grand Valley held on for the 25-22 victory.
