HAMMOND, IN – The University of Indianapolis volleyball team closed out the final day of the 2021 Midwest Crossover with a 3-1 loss to Trevecca of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Emma Jones tied a career-best 16 kills as the Hounds move to 10-11 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy scored the first point of the match but a pair of 5-0 runs put Trevecca ahead 16-6. The Hounds later fought off set point with a kill from Lauren Cullison, but the Trojans tabbed the 25-13 win.
Trailing 21-15 in the second, the Hounds scored seven of the next nine points to make it a 23-22 Trevecca lead. The Hounds fought off set points twice with a kill from Emma Jones and a service ace from MaKenna Barnhart to even the score at 24, but Trevecca tallied a pair of kills to take the second set 26-24.
The third set saw the same score, but this time the Hounds came out on top. Tied at 22 the two teams traded the next four scores. A Trojan service error put UIndy ahead 25-24 before Grace Hegwood sealed the win with a kill.
UIndy trailed by three midway through the fourth set but the Trojans pulled away with a 7-0 run en route to a 25-15 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Emma Jones paced the offense with 16 kills, tying her career-high set in the spring 2021 season against McKendree.
- Grace Hegwood recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs.
- Hannah Huppenbauer led the defense with 5 blocks.

UIndy returns to GLVC action on the road next weekend. The Hounds will face McKendree on Friday followed by Lewis on Saturday.
