Second-Half Surge Pushes Lions Past Hounds

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy football team (4-3, 2-1 GLVC) endured a 28-20 loss to visiting Lindenwood Saturday at Key Stadium. Trailing by 13 points at the break, the Lions (5-2, 3-0) held the Greyhounds scoreless in the second half while overcoming another 200-yard game by running back Toriano Clinton.

INS & OUTS
In a battle of the previous two GLVC champions, the Hounds used a handful of big plays to earn a two-score cushion heading into halftime. Two consecutive sacks followed by an interception from Gavin Bane set up a career-long-tying 43-yard field goal by Paul Buisman to make it 13-7 Hounds.

The UIndy defense forced a three-and-out on the very next possession, giving the ball right back to the offense. The Hounds cashed in again with a 72-yard drive, including 65 rushing yards from Clinton. The star back went on to finish with 229 yards and a TD, good for his third 200-yard game of the season.

But the Lions came out with new life in the second half. They managed 39 offensive snaps after the break, resulting in a near two-to-one time of possession advantage. The go-ahead touchdown came early in the fourth quarter on a 27-yard pass from Cade Brister to Alex Faddoul before later tacking on one final TD with a 17-yard catch by Payton Rose, this time from the arm of freshman QB Cole Dugger.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Clinton upped is career rushing total to 3,299, vaulting three spots into fourth on the Hounds' all-time rushing list.
- Clinton also added 94 yards on five kickoff returns to finish with 321 all-purpose yards.
- The UIndy defense applied pressure throughout the evening, as the Hounds combined for six sacks and 10 tackles for a loss. Bane and Alec Patch were each credited with 1.5 sacks and 2.5 TFLs.
- Bane, meanwhile, led the team with nine total tackles, followed by Kiave' Guerrier with eight.
- Safety Loren Strickland added five solo tackles and two pass break-ups.
- Tyler Thomas scored the game's first TD with a three-yard reception on the Hounds' first possession.

MORE NOTES
Clinton's rushing output Saturday pushed his career total past former UIndy greats Marquis Tolliver (1998-02), Andrew Walker (2014-17) and Craig Jenkins (2004-06, '08).
