QUINCY, Ill. – Senior running back
Toriano Clinton made history Saturday afternoon, breaking the UIndy single-season rushing record in a dominating 70-21 victory at Quincy University. Already the Division II rushing leader heading into the day, Clinton racked up 234 yards on the ground to surpass one of the program's most high-profile records just eight games into the season.
INS & OUTS
Behind the Hounds' talented offensive line of
Tarnjeet Singh,
Kednal Alexis,
Austin Keele,
Zachery Clark and
Clay Hadley, Clinton spearheaded a UIndy rushing attack that generated a whopping 425 yards. Clinton hit the 200-yard mark for the third consecutive week, while
Lenny Bennett tacked on a career-high 150 yards. Both players scored three touchdowns, and

Â
Defensively, UIndy held the Hawks to 3-for-14 on third-down conversions on the afternoon and just two first downs in the entire first half. Quincy kept it close early with a 57-yard fumble return, but the home team managed only two offensive TDs, just one of which did not come directly off a turnover.
Â
Second-year cornerback
Kasyus Kurns delivered a big play in the third quarter, returning a Quincy fumble 52 yards for a touchdown. Fellow-DB
Trevon Hall garnered the Hounds' lone defensive interception on the first play in the second quarter.
Â
The special teams also played a big role. Freshman
San Flowers grabbed the collegiate spotlight for the first time, blocking a Hawks punt and returning it 16 yards to the house. Meanwhile, kicker
Paul Buisman was a perfect 10-for-10 in extra-point attempts while notching seven touchbacks on 10 kickoffs.
