ROLLA, Mo. – The UIndy football team (5-4, 3-2 GLVC) endured its first road loss of the season Saturday, falling 31-28 at Missouri S&T (5-4, 3-2). Already short on wide receivers, the Greyhounds lost a pair of running backs to injury in the first half, while the host Miners managed 17 points in the fourth quarter to earn the comeback win.
INS & OUTS
With the S&T passing game heating up late, the Greyhounds saw their once 21-point lead slowly disappear. The Miners generated 158 passing yards in the final period while also benefitting from a number of pass interference calls.
Â
The Hounds built a 28-7 advantage with two quick touchdowns early in the third quarter. On the opening drive of the second half, veteran QB
Bryce Stancombe connected with rookie wideout
Jeremiah Lee on a 57-yard bomb for the latter's second score of the afternoon. Stancombe later found
Jon Eineman after a niffy double-move to make it a three-score game with 10 minutes left in the third.
Â
UIndy would not score again, however, while the Miners employed a potent passing attack to chip away at the lead.
Â
Clinging to a seven-point edge in the fourth quarter, the Hounds seemingly pulled off a game changer with a 50-plus-yard interception return by
Kiave' Guerrier, but it was ultimately nullified by a roughing-the-passer call.
Â
S&T parlayed the reversal into a 49-yard field goal with 5:54 to go before notching the go-ahead score with just 2:47 left, as senior Breon Michel hauled in a 40-yard touchdown for the game's final score.
