INS & OUTS
Despite missing a number of offensive weapons due to injury—including star running back
Toriano Clinton, the Greyhounds jumped on the Cardinals with 24 unanswered points to start the game.
Â
The scoring started with a career-long 51-yard field goal from Buisman on the opening drive of the afternoon, followed by a pair of first-quarter TDs from running back
JaQuan Buchanan.
Â
Meanwhile, the UIndy defense forced three 3-and-outs and a turnover in the first five Cardinal possessions. Cornerback
Kasyus Kurns earned the INT, one of two picks for the Chicago native on the day.
Â
Jewell finally broke the seal with a rushing touchdown late in the first half, and later added a meaningless TD in the fourth quarter to account for all their scoring.
Â
Buchanan garnered 23 carries on the day, finishing with a career-high 154 yards and two TDs. Super-senior
Bryce Stancombe was an efficient 20-for-26 passing for 271 yards and three scores. Freshman
Jeremiah Lee racked up 166 receiving yards, including a 47-yard touchdown catch.
Â
Defensively, The Greyhounds held the Cardinals to just 52 yards rushing and 275 yards in all. Second-year freshman
Larry Burks, who got the starting nod at corner, compiled seven tackles as well as the third and final UIndy interception of the game.
Kiave' Guerrier also had seven stops, while both Klem and
Sean Jackson recorded a sack.
