INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis volleyball team picked up their second straight GLVC win on Saturday, taking down visiting Quincy University by a score of 3-1. The win puts the Hounds at 8-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks jumped out to a one-set lead after taking the first set 25-17. UIndy fought back to steal the second set 25-22 and even the match at one.
Facing set point in the third set, UIndy fought out set point with a kill from Hannah Huppenbauer to force extras. A kill from Grace Hegwood put the Hounds ahead 26-25 before the Hawks recorded back-to-back kills to regain the one-point advantage. An attack error from Quincy evened the score at 27 before back-to-back kills from Kayla Guthrie and Elizabeth Eads sealed the 29-27 win.
UIndy trailed 16-14 in the fourth set but scored five of the next six points to take a 19-17 lead. Alex Equihua notched a kill to set up match point but the Hawks fought it off twice with back-to-back kills. Guthrie halted the Hawks' rally with a kill of her own to take the fourth set 25-23 and complete the rally for the Hounds.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Huppenbauer, Hedwood and Eads each recorded 11 kills on the night.
- Huppenbauer paced the Hounds with five blocks followed by Eads and Hannah Sabotin with three apiece.
- Equihua dished out 46 assists.
- MaKenna Barnhart led the defense with 26 digs, eclipsing 1,000 career digs as a Greyhound.
