INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis volleyball team closed out their home stand on Tuesday night, falling to University of Southern Indiana in five sets. The loss puts the Hounds at 4-3 in GLVC action and 8-8 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy controlled the first set, utilizing a 7-1 run to take a 17-10 lead. The Screaming Eagles threatened late with a 5-0 run of their own, but a pair of kills from Hannah Huppenbauer sealed the 25-17 win.
The second set was a nail biter as neither team was able to gain a lead of more than two points until USI was ahead 22-19. Facing set point at 24-22, UIndy rattled off four straight points to take the set 26-24. Lauren Cullison and Huppenbauer closed out the set with back-to-back kills.
USI fought back to take the third and fourth sets, forcing a defensive fifth set. The Screaming eagles held a 12-6 advantage until the Hounds rallied for four points to pull within two. Trailing again by four, kills from Hannah Sabotin and Grace Hegwood cut UIndy's deficit to 14-13. A UIndy service error gave USI the 15-13 fifth set win.
