#2 Men’s Soccer Honors Seniors With Win Over Drury

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 2-ranked University of Indianapolis men's soccer team honored 14 seniors on a rainy day at Key Stadium, helping send them off with a 2-0 victory over Drury in what will be their last regular season match on campus. The win boosts the Hounds up to 12-0-1 overall this season with a 10-0-1 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
The Hounds honored Hunter Cocherell, Connor Williams, Quincy Land, Robert Lenhrin, Barkely Haneberg-Diggs, Jeremy Fechtman, Dimitrios Karousos, Refik Dogruyol, Tyce Taylor, Drew Mueller, Ewan Lynch, Vincent Stone, Eli Stoner, and Danny Flores. Together, this senior class helped build the foundation of a four-year run that included to this date a 53-10-8 overall record and a NCAA Division II National Semifinal appearance in 2019.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Listed at 6 feet 4 inches, Makel Rasheed used his height to his advantage in helping the Hounds strike first on the scoreboard. On a free-kick from just under 30 yards out from Michael Tselios, Rasheed jumped up past the defense and met the ball with his head, placing it in the opposite side of the net past an extended goalkeeper in the 36th minute.

UIndy held strong onto the lead with Alejandro Steinwascher once again putting things away like the many times he has this season. Eli Dulle found Steinwascher in the 88th minute on a pass in the middle of the field that got past the defense and allowed him to send one into the back of the net.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Another match, another strong showing on offense for the Hounds who fired 22 total shots (10 on goal) compared to just six (two on goal) from the Panthers.
-24 total fouls were committed this afternoon, with Drury tallying a game-high 13.
-Cole Rainwater guided the way with six total shots while Steinwascher trailed close behind with four of his own.
-Karousos had two saves in the net and capped off the weekend with his sixth clean sheet of the season.

HOUND BYTES
Final thoughts on the match from head coach John Higgins:
"I thought it was a really solid performance from us today, maybe one of the best outings we've had defensively this season. We scored a goal on a set play which is something we want to be keen on at this point in the season, and then [Alejandro Steinwascher] got his goal on the break at the end of the match to mark a pretty complete performance."

Higgins on how important this senior class has been to the program:
"We have a really big senior class this year, and I think it was a really nice way for those guys to finish up their careers. We certainly wouldn't be in the position we're in without those seniors and the culture they have brought. It's really propelled us to becoming one of the premiere programs in [NCAA Division II]. Massive thank you to the seniors for everything".

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will return to the state of Missouri on Friday, Oct. 29 for a conference clash with Lindenwood beginning at 8:30 p.m.
