#1 Hounds Claim GLVC Regular Season Crown For Second Straight Season

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – For just the second time this season, the No. 1-ranked University of Indianapolis men's soccer team concluded a match with a draw, this time in the form of a 1-1 finish on the road against Lindenwood. However, despite not securing a win tonight, the Greyhounds were crowned GLVC regular season champions for the second year in a row.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
A key miscue in the first half came when the Greyhounds failed to execute a penalty kick in the 26th minute of play. However, UIndy flipped roles in the 53rd minute and saw its goalkeeper Dimitrios Karousos stop a penalty shot from the Lions to keep the match at a scoreless stalemate.

Finally, continuing the trend of penalty kicks, the Hounds raced out ahead with a successfully executed one by Michael Tselios in the 58th minute. Despite this, Lindenwood produced what would be a clutch goal in the 89th minute to send the match to overtime. From there, neither team gained an advantage over the other.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy had no problem out-shooting Lindenwood on its home turf, firing 22 total shots while the Lions added just nine.
-A total of 33 fouls were tallied tonight, with the Greyhounds managing a game-high 17.
-Tselios and Alejandro Steinwascher paced the Hounds on offense with each managing five total shots.

HOUND BYTES
Final thoughts on the match and winning the GLVC regular season championship from head coach John Higgins...
"I'm super excited we were able to win the [GLVC] regular season tonight. It's such a tough conference to win, so i'm delighted we were able to get it done. As for the match [tonight], it was a really tough one but I think it was a great experience for us to have. We gave up that goal in the late stages and hopefully there is a lesson for us to be learned as we continue further into the season."

UP NEXT
For the final regular season match of the season, UIndy will remain in the St. Louis area and battle No. 10 Maryville beginning at 3:30 p.m.
