CONFERENCE CHAMPS! Hounds Drop Prairie Stars 2-0 in GLVC Title Match

INDIANAPOLIS - Last season, the University of Indianapolis men's soccer team fell in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament championship match in heartbreaking fashion. This year was a different story, as the Hounds took down Illinois Springfield 2-0 at Key Stadium to claim the conference tournament crown. This marks the third conference tournament title in program history, with the other two coming in 2014 and 2017.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams battled tough in the first half, with the scoreboard sitting as a scoreless stalemate heading into the locker room. Finally, in the 56th minute, Makel Rasheed sent a long pass in to Seth Ward who beat the Prairie Star defenders and crushed one past a diving goalkeeper.

Moments later in the 58th minute, it was the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year Alejandro Steinwascher sealing the win for the Hounds by getting free off a pass from Owen Atkison and floating a shot over the head of an approaching keeper.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy once again won the shots battle against an opponent by tallying a game-high 15 compared to just eight from Illinois Springfield.
-The Greyhounds kept the pressure high towards the Prairie Stars net, collecting eight corner kicks while allowing just three in return.
-In a relatively clean match, only 16 total fouls were called in 90 minutes with UIS having a game-high nine. However, Illinois Springfield did collect two yellow cards towards the end of the match, both in the 89th minute.

UP NEXT
