INDIANAPOLIS – Energy, big swings, and fundamentals. This is what the Greyhounds brought to the first match of the day on Feb. 20 against Drury. The Hounds defeated the top-10 ranked team, 3-0.
The Hounds went on to take the win over Maryville in the later match, 3-0.
"The wins will come if we keep doing the little things," said head coach
Jason Reed. "We just need to keep doing them over and over again."
DEFEATING THE PANTHERS
Senior
Katie Furlong led the Hounds on the net with 13 kills. While fellow senior
Taylor Jacquay paved the way for the UIndy defense with 11 digs.
"That was exactly the team we want to be every single game," said junior setter
Alex Equihua. "We all agree that that is the expectation we have for ourselves."
Equihua and sophomore outside  hitter
Emma Jones brought uncanny chemistry and intensity to the court.
"I feel like Alex and I have a great connection., on and off the court," said Jones, "so that helps."
Jones notched 11 kills with a .579 hitting percentage total in the morning match, while Equihua had 34 assists and two kills herself.
"Emma just keeps getting better and better," said Reed. "She's getting more comfortable and confident, and that's showing."
The Greyhounds totaled 41 team kills, with 51 digs, while holding the known-physical team of Drury to only a .161 hitting percentage.
The Panthers were led by Chloe Rear who notched 12 kills, 13 digs and nine assists.
DOWNING MARYVILLE
Jones brought the heat in the second match as well. Leading the Hounds in their second win of the day with 12 kills and a .524 hitting percentage. Furlong also performed for the Hounds, bringing 12 kills off of 31 swings.
"I was really glad with how we handled our end of the court from the beginning of the day to the end of the day," Reed said.
Freshman
Gracie King earned her stripes by slamming down all three of her attack attempts, ending with a 1.000 percentage on the net. Sophomore
MaKenna Barnhart posted 20 digs in the libero jersey, as well as three assists.
The Hounds totaled for 44 kills, and 56 digs, while holding the Saints to a .110 hitting percentage.
"This was a good opportunity to come out and play UIndy volleyball," said Reed.
