Men’s Tennis Earns Invite to ITA DII Indoor Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY – Making their tournament debut, the No. 10-ranked Greyhounds are flying to Oklahoma City this week to compete in the ITA DII Indoor Championships. UIndy enters the tournament undefeated at 4-0. According to junior Nikolaj Talimaa the team is feeling great heading into Friday's opening match.

"We were practicing hard, and it's nice to see that the hard practices show up in our matches," Talimaa said. "I think everybody found their game; everybody's ready. We're playing at a really good level, and we're just glad that we were able to compete in general, especially if we consider the whole situation with COVID.

"But now to go to the nationals to compete with the best of the country, it will be for sure a great experience and we will be motivated and confident."

UIndy drew third-seeded Flagler College in the quarterfinal, set to start at 9 a.m. ET Friday morning. The team is now back at full strength heading into Oklahoma City with veteran Renato Lima returning to the lineup on Sunday. According to Head Coach Malik Tabet, having Lima back will help the team's confidence for the tournament.

"He's a great doubles player, he's a great singles player, and he's experienced," Tabet said of his senior standout. "That was definitely a tough match for him to come back for (versus Southwest Baptist). But we felt confident that he was gonna hold up his end bargain and he did. The match that he lost came down to a couple of points here and there. But having him back with the team makes us feel a lot stronger, a lot more confident."

Featuring eight of the top teams in Division II, the tournament continues Saturday with semifinal and consolation matches, while Sunday's action is highlighted by the championship match. Find more info on the official homepage.
