Hounds Lose Overtime Thriller in Regular Season Finale

INDIANAPOLIS - In the final game of regular season, the UIndy women's basketball team (11-10, 11-10 GLVC) were not able to push past the Lindenwood Lion (11-9, 11-9 GLVC) after the Lions forced Saturday's contest into overtime. Taylor Drury's 19 points were enough in the Hounds' 65-64 loss.

INS & OUTS
The first two quarters almost seemed like two different games, as Lindenwood took a quick 21-10 lead after the first quarter before the Greyhounds' 24-9 point performance in the second quarter. UIndy was able to climb back ahead of the game going into halftime off of a strong defensive outing, where they held Lindenwood scoreless in the last 2 and a half minutes. Sadie Hill led the Hounds with 10 points in the first half, including the 3-pointer to give them back the lead.

The Greyhounds held a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter, but a pair of 3-point makes from the Lions' Nicole Hernandez threw the game within a one-bucket score with a little over six minutes remaining. After Lindenwood took back a four-point lead, the Greyhounds would rattle off three-unanswered buckets in the last 2 minutes of the fourth quarter; layups from Taylor Drury and Lauren With, along with a Mickey Sasson jumper with 1.9 seconds left to take a 60-58 lead. Off their final timeout, Lindenwood's Nicole Hernandez would hit an open layup off the inbounds play to send the game into overtime.

In the first two minutes of overtime, the Greyhounds would hit two unanswered baskets by Mya Scheidt and Drury to stretch their lead to four. In the final 90 seconds, the Lions were able to get two unanswered shots of their own; a layup from Julia Ruzevich and a 3-pointer from Kendra Lee to give them the lead the rest of the way.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sasson's 12 rebounds were the fourth time this season the senior has collected 10 or more rebounds in a single contest.
- The Greyhounds' 38 percent shooting is their lowest mark since Jan. 26 in their 69-63 loss to Southern Indiana.
- UIndy's 14 offensive rebounds are the most in a game for the team since their 72-61 win over Southwest Baptist on Jan. 6.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach Kristin Wodrich on Drury & Sasson's efforts in their final regular home game …
"They're great. It's awesome to have them, and they played hard tonight. We came up short and didn't start well again, you can't do that and win in this league."

Head Coach Kristin Wodrich on the game's takeaways …
"We fight hard and come back, but we started badly. We have to figure that out before [the GLVC Tournament] next week."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will take on No. 1 seed Drury for the first round of the 2021 GLVC Women's Basketball Tournament, qualifying in the top eight teams at regular season's end to play in the quarterfinal. The Hounds will tip off with the Panthers at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 in Springfield, Mo.
