QUEENS, N.C. - After opening the season with a victory over the No. 22 Golden Bears, the No. 6 UIndy women's lacrosse team (2-0, 0-0 GLVC) traveled out east to compete against one of the top teams in the nation. The Greyhounds took on the No. 4 Queens Royals (2-1) and dominated the matchup, taking a 15-5 double-digit victory in one of the most highly contested games of the weekend.
INS & OUTS
The Hounds jumped out to a fast four-goal lead, where they claimed the first four goals in the game's first  10 minutes of action. Despite
Abigail Lagos scoring four of UIndy's first five goals, the Royals were able to climb back on the Hounds' heels as they knocked three shots behind the net. With 12 minutes left in the first half, UIndy would take full control of the contest off of a dominant 10-1 scoring run.
Cassidy King stood as the Hounds' protector in the goal, the junior collecting 12 saves from Queens' 17 shots on goal. King saved six shots in each half, the Royals only having seven shots on goal in the second half.
Peyton Romig led the Hounds in both draw controls (nine) and ground balls (five), while seven other Greyhounds collected a pair of ground balls. Only four of UIndy's 15 goals were assisted in the contest,
Sarah Klein leading the team on her two assists to go with her pair of goals.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- King's 12 saves marks the fifth time in her career with double-digit saves.
- The Greyhounds' 26.7 percent of goals including an assist is their lowest mark since last season, where they held a 26.1 percent mark against
Lincoln Memorial last season on Feb. 23.
- Saturday's win over Queens marks the first victory over a top-5 team in program history for the Royals.
HOUND BYTES
Lagos on the team capitalizing on their opportunity for high-level play …
"Today was a complete team effort; offense, defense, between the 30's, it was a complete job from our team for a 60 minutes. I want to thank both UIndy and Queens' administrations for the opportunity and play another great program, one who has been at a level that we are aspiring to get to."
Head coach James Delaney on the win's impact to the program's status …
"We told our team they needed to show why they are some of the best players in the country in their positions, and they proved that. We challenged the girls at halftime to be tough and play with grit, and they answered the call. King between the pipes,
Riley McClure on defense, Romig at midfield and Lagos on attack. These players all made statements and claims to being the best players in the country at their positions."
UP NEXT
The Hounds will travel back to Indianapolis for a handful of home games the next couple weeks, starting with a matchup at Key Stadium on March 6. The Greyhounds will take on the Findlay Oilers at 3 p.m.
