Men’s Soccer Scores in Each Half to Down Screaming Eagles

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After taking down Southwest Baptist on Thursday, the UIndy men's soccer team (2-0, 2-0 GLVC) traveled south to take on Southern Indiana (0-1, 0-1 GLVC) on Saturday night. Alejandro Steinwascher tallied a goal in the first half, but Cole Rainwater's first career goal would put the Hounds ahead of the Screaming Eagles the rest of the game to win on a score of 2-1.

INS & OUTS
The Greyhounds were able to apply pressure early in this contest, Kendall Allen and Eli Dulle both taking shots in the first 10 minutes of action before Southern Indiana attempted one. The pressure paid off for UIndy, notching the second-straight game where they score in the first 20 minutes of action. Steinwascher netted his first goal this season in the 19th minute of action, the goal being credited with an assist from freshman Michael Tselios for his first point of the year.

Going into the second half of the contest, USI was able to come out of the half as the aggressors and score in the 50th minute to tie the game at one each. The score of 1-1 would only be for 26 seconds though, as Steinwascher gave sophomore teammate Rainwater a beautiful opportunity in the 51st minute to put the Greyhounds back in the lead. From then on, the Hounds would control the pressure for the rest of the contest, only allowing one shot from the Screaming Eagles compared to the Greyhounds' four attempts.

The Greyhounds were able to hold Southern Indiana to only one shot on goal the entire match, the one being their goal to start the second half. The Hounds tallied five shots on goal from their 12 attempts, shots on goal being accredited to Dulle (two), Steinwascher (one), Rainwater (one) and Seth Ward (one).

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Saturday's win marks the second time in Dimitrios Karousos' career as a Hound to claim a win without registering a save.
- Steinwascher's goal on Saturday marks his 10th career score as a Greyhound.
- UIndy's win on Saturday makes them one of two teams remaining in the GLVC with an undefeated season to date.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach John Higgins on the team's hot start …
"We were unbelievable in the first half, passing the ball really well and being really dominant. We were only up one goal, but there were so many chances for more that would have made this game much more comfortable. The rain and wind in the second half wasn't in our favor, their goal being something Dimi [Karusos] couldn't do anything about. He's been our rock, and with today's game we still believe he's the best goalkeeper in the league."

Cole Rainwater on his contributions to the team's early success ...
"I had a couple opportunities to score as well on Friday, so it was awesome to finally net a goal as a Greyhound. These were two very good team victories against two very good teams in the GLVC, it shows our grit to go back-to-back, and we train for something like this daily. We're really proud of this group, and we're incredibly excited to play the other teams in the GLVC."

Head Coach John Higgins on the team's response to USI's goal …
"Cole [Rainwater] has had a fantastic weekend coming off of the bench; he was a big factor on Friday against McKendree and was able to get the game winner today. This was obviously a tough weekend, and we matched USI today physically and looked really good throughout the entire game."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will have only one game next week to prepare for, having to travel to Illinois for a Sunday afternoon match. UIndy will take on the Lewis Flyers at 3:30 p.m. ET.
