EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After falling to McKendree in a close contest on Friday, the UIndy women's soccer team (1-1, 1-1 GLVC) bounced back with a second-half surge to overcome Southern Indiana (0-1, 0-1 GLVC) on Sunday.
Hannah Gamble scored the Greyhounds' game-winning goal in the final minute of action, avoiding overtime with scoring her second career goal with 19 seconds left in the game to make the final score 2-1.
"Great result on the road," said head coach
Holly Cox. "USI is a tough team that battle extremely hard, so its a tough place to come and get a road win."
The Greyhounds tallied 14 shots, seven of which where on goal. While the Screaming Eagles had 12 with four on goal.Â
FIRST WIN
The Hounds were led by
Maria Herrero who led the team with four shots, three of which were on goal and scored the first goal of the match for the Hounds. She was tied in stats by
Hannah Gamble who took the final and game-winning shot for the Hounds; she was assisted by Herrero.Â
"Great equalizing goal from Maria," added Cox. "then Hannah with the game-winner."
Sophia Saucerman manned the net for UIndy, posting three saves on the night.Â
"The team showed a lot of grit today," Cox said. "Proud of their fight this game, they battled back from being 1-0 in the first half."
USI was led by Katlyn Andres who posted one goal out of her two shots on goal.Â
