Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Hounds to Season-Opening Win

INDIANAPOLIS – Taking the field for the first time in 11 months, the No. 10-ranked UIndy men's lacrosse (1-0, 1-0 GLVC) kicked off the 2021 campaign Thursday with a 15-11 victory against Lewis University (0-1, 0-1) at Key Stadium. Trailing by a single tally entering the fourth quarter, the 10th-ranked Greyhounds put up six goals in the final 13 minutes to notch the win.

INS & OUTS
The Greyhounds got things going by building a four-goal lead in the first quarter, as four different Hounds scored during that 10-minute span. Redshirt-junior Brian Robb was able to connect two points during the early surge, providing an assist and goal in the process. Lewis was able to answer with a run of their own, dropping five unanswered goals to take the lead from UIndy in the span of seven minutes. Throughout the second and third quarters, the teams went back and forth, as the lead changed hands four times in the middle periods.

As the teams headed into the fourth, the Flyers clung tightly to a one-goal lead, looking to upset their ranked opponent. The Greyhounds' urgency kicked into high gear, rattling off six goals in the final 13 minutes to move in front and seal a season-opening win.

Robb nailed three shots in the back of the net in the final quarter of action, with Andrew Simonich took credit for two more goals as well; both players would end the contest with four goals each. Drew Billig ended the day with a career-high in assists, as the junior collected five hepers in the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Hounds ended the day with a ground ball differential of nine, totaling 37 ground balls compared to the Flyers' 28.
- UIndy's shots-on-goal percent of 69 is the highest mark since April of 2019 against Maryville.
- Saturday's win marks Austin Barnett's 10th career win in the cage while collecting five saves on the day.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will pack their bags and travel to St. Louis next weekend where they'll take on the Maryville Saints in their next contest. That game is scheduled for Feb. 13, kicking off at 2 p.m. ET.
