#17 Hounds Win in OT Thriller Against Prairie Stars

INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 17 UIndy women's soccer team (3-1, 3-1 GLVC) kicked off a weekend in Key Stadium on Friday night, where they hosted the Illinois Springfield (1-4, 1-4 GLVC) in an overtime matchup. The two programs were neck-and-neck the entire way, up until minute number 99, where Elena Espinosa knocked the game-winning goal in the lower right corner off a beauty pass from Alexi Hardie.

INS & OUTS
The Prairie Stars were able to control the pace in the first half, where the attempted six shots at freshman Laura Shake, making the start behind the goal for the Greyhounds. With those six shots, three made their way on the goal, all to be saved by Shake. The Hounds didn't allow any inside chip-ins, the defense not allowing an attempt inside the box. The Greyhounds were able to supply three shots of their own on the offense, only one being on goal from Maddy Theis.

UIndy was able to get their offense moving in the second half, reaching up to seven shots in the half. Dana Youssef and Maria Herrero were each able to get attempts to reach the back of the net, sticking to the bottom half of the goal. With the team's both having a pair of 0's with 12 minutes remaining in regulation, the Greyhounds put their offense on hyper-drive, driving into four shot attempts in contrast to Illinois Springfields' one. After Abby Dellamorte missed a chip to the right side, the two teams ended regulation to duel it out in extra time.

The Hounds and Prairie Stars were even on offense, each taking two shots each in the game's 10-minute extra period. Each of the four attempts were taken by different student-athletes, only one being considered a shot on goal. Hardie was able to thread a pass between three Prairie Stars to find Espinosa in the middle of the box, the sophomore taking the chip from 10 yards from the goal to knock a shot in the right corner to give the Hounds their third win of the season.

- Shake's five saves ties a season-high for the team in her first start this season.
- Friday's win is the first overtime victory for the Greyhounds since their 2-1 victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Oct. 10 last season.
- Espinosa's score marks her first goal of the season along with her first points as well
