Hounds Battle Hawks to 0-0 Draw

INDIANAPOLIS - For the second straight game, the No. 17 UIndy women's soccer team (3-1-1, 3-1-1 GLVC) went into overtime at Key Stadium, battling Quincy (2-2-2, 2-2-2) to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon. Senior back Dana Youssef helped the Greyhound defense notch the shutout.

INS & OUTS
The Greyhounds applied the pressure early in the first half, sending shot after shot at the Hawks' goalie, nine to be exact. Each of the three shots that came on goal were sent from a different Hounds, UIndy pushing from all sides in utilizing their offensive weapons. Taylor Peck tallied four attempts at the goal in around 17 minutes of action in the first half, the two other shots on goal being sent from Uma Yadav and Kaylee Simbelmann. In the second half, it was Quincy's turn to go full-throttle on offense. Laura Shake made her second-consecutive start in the goal for the Hounds, facing 11 shots in the second-half alone to pile in a pair of saves during that time span. The Greyhounds selected their shots more cautiously in the second half, upping Quincy's shots on goals with three marks on only five shots taken overall.

In the first round of extra time, the Greyhounds had fans at Key Stadium on the edge of their seat for the two shots they had, each ending with phenomenal saves by Quincy. One shot came off of a beautiful chip and tap from Zimbelmann and Taylor Peck, reaching over to Elena Espinosa for a shot in the top-left corner. Quincy was able to tip the ball by their fingertips, garnering the save and have the Greyhounds look for their next attempt. The second overtime kept the crowd engaged, another moment came in the final seconds that held everyone's breath. As the clock dwindled down, Kiki Saucoda and the Hawks' goalie contested for the ball in the game's final seconds, ricocheting over to Maddy Theis for the game's final moment. Coming in at full speed on a sharp cut, the angle was too far for Maddy Theis, the freshman defender just missing the chip in at the top.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- UIndy's 17 shots are the most they've taken for a single game so far this season, Peck attempting six of her own.
- The last time the Greyhounds had more shots on goal (8) but less overall shots (17) was against Rockhurst on Nov. 1 in the 2019 season.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will compete next weekend for another Friday-Sunday schedule, this time taking on Truman (March 19; 2 p.m.) and William Jewell (March 21; 1 p.m.) on the road. The Greyhounds will be back in Indianapolis the week after.
