Eads, Equihua Post Career Highs as Hounds Drop Two

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's volleyball squad dropped two matches in hosting of Missouri S&T and Quincy on Saturday in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center. The Hounds fell in the morning match to S&T, 3-2. Later, fell to #23 Quincy 3-1.
 
"We're better than this!" Head Coach Jason Reed's encouraging voice echoed through the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center during a timeout. 
 
AGAINST S&T 
Elizabeth Eads set two season highs in the five-set match by posting 10 kills and .500 attack percentage. Senior Katie Furlong continued to lead the pack in kills with 18 on 50 swings bringing her season total to 113. The senior also tied her season high in digs with seven. 
 
Junior setter Alex Equihua continued to work the setter position by posting her career high assists with 52 in the loss, as well as her career high kills with four. Equihua added also defensive flare for the Hounds with 12 digs. 
 
"Our effort has improved and is a little more consistent," Reed mentioned. "We're shooting ourselves in the foot a bit too much."
 
The Miners posted 15 aces in the five-set match over the Hounds, led by Hannah Merjil who earned seven aces, and 58 assists throughout. S&T proved to be powerful on the net with 12 blocks, led by Kiernan O'Boyle who added seven. 
 
#23 QUINCY
Elizabeth Eads followed up her first match by breaking her career highs by posting 13 kills and seven blocks. The middle blocker dominated on the net for the Hounds, followed by Emma Jones and Grace Hegwood who both tallied 10 kills each. 
 
"There were some nice performers today," Reed added. 
 
Makenna Barnhart tied her career high in digs in a match with 35, and was followed by Gillian Santana who had 16 of the Hounds total of 105 digs. 
 
The Hawks were led by setter Makalya Knoblauch who tallied 60 assists in the match,  as well as 19 digs. 
 
UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will travel to St. Charles, Mo. next Saturday, March 20 where they will face Lindenwood and Southwest Baptist starting at 11 a.m. ET.
