#4 Hounds Returned to the Court Against #22 Tigers

PENSACOLA, Fla – It has been over two weeks since the UIndy men's tennis team has seen on court action with a match with Wayne State being postponed and an exhibition match with the University of Mobile being rained out. However, the Greyhounds showed no signs of rust in sunny Florida taking down their third ranked opponent of the season with a win over the University of West Alabama Tigers, 6-1, at the University of West Florida campus. The result puts the Hounds back in the win column since their runner-up finish at the ITA DII Indoor Team Championships.

Doubles play was a walk in the park for the Hounds, as they took all three matches. Sophomore Nikolaj Talimaa and freshman Pedro Franca emerged first with a 6-1 win. They were followed by sophomore Tom Zeuch and first-time partner Yoann Viel, who won 6-2 to take the doubles point for the Hounds. The No. 1 doubles spot with senior pair Renato Lima and Agustin Gascia then wrapped up doubles action for the day with a 6-4 win.

For singles, the Hounds only suffered one loss on the day. Viel wrapped up his match first with a win over his Tiger opponent 6-2, 6-1. Then followed was the only Hounds lost point with Lima falling in the No. 1 singles spot 6-2, 6-3. But the Hounds proceeded to sweep the rest of the matches, with sophomore Dominik Koenig in the No. 6 singles spot winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

The ball continued to roll for the Hounds in No. 4 singles, with Talimaa picking up another two-set win 6-3, 6-4. Gascia then was pushed to three sets in the No. 3 singles spot. He captured the first set quickly with a 6-2 win and then lost the second set to his Tiger adversary 6-4. He then battled back in the third set to dominate with a 6-1 match-securing set.

To wrap up the afternoon for the Hounds was Zeuch in a No. 2 singles matchup, where he came out of it with another victory 7-6, 7-5.
