LIBERTY, Mo. - After the No. 2 UIndy men's soccer team (6-0-1, 6-0-1 GLVC) blanked the Bulldogs on Friday, the team traveled over to William Jewell (2-5-1, 2-5-1) to shut out a second-straight shutout opponent on the road. The Greyhounds were able to sink two different shots in the back of the net, extending the win-streak to three off of a 2-0 final score.
INS & OUTS
The Hounds were able to knock in a goal in both of the halves, Alejandro Steinwascher garnering his sixth goal of the season off of a beautiful in-bounds play in the first half. At the 35' mark, the Greyhounds tossed an inbounds pass just under the goal, Makeel Rasheed was able to bump the pass in the air away from Cardinal defenders. Chasing the bump, Rasheed was able to perform a bicycle kick to lob the ball on the other side of the net, finding Steinwascher on a header to knock in the first score of the game.
It wouldn't take long for the Hounds to score again in the second half, finding a Greyhound who earned his first career goal at the 50' mark. After a pass from Rasheed crossed the other side of the field, the ball was batted around by several student-athletes around 20 yards from the goal. Michael Tselios was able to break away from the group at full speed, sending a shot from the near side of the field, the William Jewell goalie deflecting the attempt with his right hand. The bounce moved almost perpendicular to the goal, allowing a streaking Dylan Bollard to chip a shot just above the fallen goalkeeper for the game's second score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bollard's score was the freshman's first career goal, already having an assist earlier in the season.
- The Greyhounds had one of their most aggressive performances on Saturday, marking a season-high in shots on goal (nine).
- UIndy didn't give the Cardinals any good looks, the Hounds preventing William Jewell from registering a single shot on goal in Sunday's win.
HOUND BYTES
Head coach John Higgins on the team's win streak …
"Both teams this weekend gave us issues tactically, but defensively we've been very good. Dimitrious Karusos didn't have much to do during this stretch, all credit going to the back four since their mentality was pretty good and their concentration was great. We've been able to effectively put teams away without letting their hype come over us."
Dylan Bollard on his first career goal and the team's ability to change the game plan on the fly ...
"It was a scrappy goal, but I was able to get some space on the play and put it into the back of the net. The team has been phenomenal all-around, the team going into the game has been able to give the offense some nice feeds despite them throwing some things we didn't expect. The back four was really good today, and we took our chances when we got them and it earned us the win."
UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will come back to Indianapolis to prepare for two home contests this upcoming week, first taking on the Rockhurst Hawks. The Hounds will take on the Hawks on Friday, March 26 at around 7:30 p.m.
