Steinwascher’s PK Gets Men’s Soccer Their Sixth-Straight Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - After rescheduling their April calendar to avoid Easter Sunday games, the No. 6 UIndy men's soccer team (9-0-1, 9-0-1 GLVC) traveled out west to Drury (6-4, 6-4) on Thursday to claim their sixth straight win of the season. Alejandro Steinwascher nailed his eighth goal of the season off an a game-winning penalty kick, bringing the final score in the Hounds' favor 2-1.

INS & OUTS
The Greyhounds were able to be the first to strike in the contest, Makel Rasheed snagging his second goal of the season off of a header in a corner kick situation. Jakub Olczyk garnered his fourth assist on the season through the corner kick, placing the ball on the far side of the bars for a streaking Rasheed header past the Panthers' goalkeeper. After Drury took five shots at the goal in the first half, Dimitrios Karousos' two saves kept UIndy in front as the aggressors for the second half.

After the Panthers' tied the contest at one a-piece at the 69' mark, it only took three and a half minutes for the Greyhounds to respond with coming back out in front. The corner kick again coming from UIndy, the contest for the first touch off of it resulted in a Drury penalty, Steinwascher being prevented from making his mark on the play. Steinwascher rotated on the PK as if he would shoot to the left side of the goal, but as the Panthers' goalie dove left he moved his footing to take the shot to the right for the easy game-winner.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Panthers' five shots on goal is the most UIndy has faced in a single game this season.
- The Greyhounds have assisted at least once in every game of their six-game win streak.
- Steinwascher's goal marks the fourth game-winner for the junior this season.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach John Higgins on the scrappy win against Drury ...
"We've been able to win games in a number of ways already this season, and today was another way we hadn't done yet. We battled really well, and showed great character to come back and claim the win. It can't always be pretty in this conference, but we showed that we can win an ugly game and I'm proud of that."

Steinwascher on the game-winning shot ...
"After I took the ball and went up for the kick, I noticed that Drury's goalkeeper was moving to my left before I was even making a move. I decided then to move [the ball] to the right, two inches from the post, and it became a great result for the boys. You really can't complain about what we've been able to accomplish so fa this season. "

UP NEXT
The Hounds will pack their packs and travel over to a different GLVC campus in Missouri, next taking on Missouri S&T. That contest on Saturday, April 3 will kick off at around 3:30 p.m. in Rolla, Mo.
