Hounds Split UMSL Series

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Indianapolis Baseball team split their Missouri – St. Louis series after defeating the Tritons in two games on Friday and dropping two on Sunday in St. Louis. 
 
John Carpinelli continued to prove to be a big at bat for the Hounds with another homerun in game two, bringing in two runs in the third inning. 
 
GAME ONE, USML 8 – UINDY 5
Isaac Bair posted two RBI off of one hit in game one, while the Hounds made a seventh inning surge of scoring four runs, the Tritons took game one 8-5. 
 
The Greyhounds were outhit 9-5, with both teams committing an error a piece. St. Louis proved to be big offensively with three doubles during the seven-inning game. 
 
Defensively, Alex Vela contributed two assists and a putout. Xavier Rivas began the game on the mound for UIndy, facing 11 batters and giving up 3 hits and striking out two in 2.0 inning pitched. 
 
Johnny Irish followed him up and took the loss for the Greyhounds, giving up 3 runs and striking out one in 1.0 innings pitched. Wyatt Phillips closed the games for the Hounds, striking out two and giving up two runs in 1.0 inning pitched. 
 
Blake Jones took the win for UMSL, striking out four Hounds in 6.2 inning pitched, and walking five. The Tritons were led by Brandon Olion who had two doubles and two RBI in four at bats. 
 
 
GAME TWO, USML 6 – UINDY 5
The Greyhounds had a strong first four inning offensively, scoring five runs and allowing only one from the Tritons. 
 
Second baseman Ty Williams led the way with four hits and one RBI on five at bats, while Trey Smith posted three hits and one RBI. 
 
On top of his homerun, Carpinelli posted seven putouts, while catcher Will Spear posted 11. 
 
Myc Witty started for the Greyhounds, striking out seven and walking none in 4.0 inning pitched. Chaney Morgan (0-1)  took the loss in giving up four hits in 1.0 inning pitched. 
 
Jake Uselton (2-0) took the win for USML striking out two in four batters faced, while Josh Shoemaker was credited with the save for the Hounds with one strikeout in 1.0 inning pitched. 
 
 
UP NEXT 
UIndy will head to St. Charles, Mo. on Tuesday, April 13 when they will face Lindenwood in a rescheduled game with the first game beginning at 4 p.m. and the second game beginning approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
