NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Last week, the UIndy women's lacrosse team (9-0, 3-0 GLVC) was tabbed as the No. 1 team in the Division II Coaches Poll from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, the first time to program has been so highly touted. On Monday afternoon, the IWLCA recognized the Greyhounds as the nation's top team for the second week in a row.
The Hounds have maintained their stature off of another perfect weekend in their undefeated season by taking down two GLVC opponents on the road in Missouri Western and Rockhurst. Both contests ended with a margin of victory of 20 or more goals, along with tearing down a program record and setting new career highs. Peyton Romig highlighted the weekend with her 22-draw control performance at Missouri Western, the senior broke her own program record in that game. Romig also tallied 36 draw controls throughout the entire weekend. Abigail Lagos continued to be the Greyhounds' top scorer in both of the weekend games as she set team highs in goals (11) and points (13), including a season-high eight-point appearance in the 26-5 win over Missouri Western. Junior Cassidy King only allowed three goals as the Hounds' head goal keeper last week, King featuring a 10-save contest against Rockhurst for double-digit saves a second time this season. Marin Felsoci was only a top Greyhound over the weekend, dropping a team-high five points off of four goals and one assist, along with a team-high five ground balls in the contest against the Griffons.
UIndy has skyrocketed up the rankings statistically in multiple categories in the last week, the team now on top in four different areas. The Hounds have the best average in draw controls per game (19), Romig being a big contributor as the nation's leading individual by almost four draw controls per game. The dominance on the draw control puts the team on offense again and again, putting them as the No. 1 scoring margin in Division II, winning by an average of almost 17 goals per game. Their defense ranks among the best as well, having the best save percentage (62 percent) and scoring defense (3.67 goals allowed per game) among any team in the nation. Cassidy King has been on top of her game for the defensive stronghold, leading the nation individually as owning the top save percentage in Division II at 63 percent.
Lindenwood still sits behind the Hounds at the No. 2 spot in the rankings, the two powerhouses being the only two teams to represent the GLVC in the top-25. The Greyhounds have three opponents from earlier in the season still placed in the polls, as No. 5 Queens (N.C.), No. 8 Grand Valley State and No. 24 Colorado Mesa all remain in the list. UIndy will get the chance to take on Lindenwood on April 22 to battle as the top tam both in the conference and in the nation.
