INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis baseball team split on their first day of the conference weekend series against the McKendree Bearcats. The Bearcats took the first game 10-1, and the Hounds answered in game two with 8-1.
Isaac Bair had his first homer of the season and the lone homerun of the day for the Greyhounds in the third inning of game two.
GAME ONE – MCKENDREE 10 HOUNDS 1
The McKendree Bearcats proved their worth at the plate starting early in game one. Scoring three runs by the end of the second inning. After
Trey Smith's lone run in the first, the Bearcats went on to score nine unanswered runs.
The Hounds were out hit 14 to five, with
Brandon DeWitt leading the Hounds with two hits, including a double. While first baseman
John Carpinelli had the lone RBI of the game.
Ryan Hutchinson (4-1) led McKendree with three hits and three RBI. Hutchinson was one among three MKU players to hit one out of the park. Jared Timmerman pitched the full game for the Bearcats, striking out six Hounds and walking none in his 9.0 innings.
Myc Witty (0-3) took the loss for the Hounds, giving up seven runs and striking out two in 5.0 inning pitched.
GAME TWO – HOUNDS 8 MCKENDREE 1
Caleb Vaughn led the Greyhounds with three RBI off two hits, while
Brandon DeWitt had two hits and two RBI.
Bair led the Hounds defensively with four put outs and one assist.
The Hounds outhit the Bearcats 10 to four. The Bearcats left seven stranded on base throughout the match, while the Hounds left only three.
Xavier Rivas (3-0) took the win for the Greyhounds, striking out two and walking three in 4.0 inning pitched.
Alec Burnett finished the game off on the mound for the Hounds, striking out three in 3.0 inning pitched.
While Andrew Yanick (2-6) took the loss for the Bearcats giving up eight hits in 2.0 inning pitched.
