Baseball Takes Maryville Series; Hounds Slam Two

INDIANAPOLIS- The University of Indianapolis Baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, senior Hunter Waning kicked off the big inning by slamming a ball out of left field, during the Hounds 11-4 win over the Maryville Saints on Saturday at Greyhound Park.
 
 John Carpinelli followed up Waning with a three-run dinger out of the left-center gap.
 
Defensively Freshman Xavier Rivas (2-0) showed his teeth on the mound, taking his second win of his career by only giving up three hits in 6.1 innings pitched. The freshman pitcher had seven strikeouts and four assists during his time on the Mound.
 
BIG AT BATS
The Greyhounds flexed their strength on the plate with one of their biggest batting days of the season. With first baseman John Carpinelli leading the Hounds with his three RBI homer, four the Hounds had a total of eight RBI on the day.
 
Slugger Trey Smith posted three hits on the day and scored three runs in four at bats.
 
With the Hounds up seven to four in the top of the seventh, the Saints fought back. Scoring four runs off of three hits and an error by the Hounds. However, the Hounds answered back with three runs to end the seventh up 10 to four.
 
The Greyhounds ended the day with eight hits which included three doubles, proving their offensive dominance.

Tanner Marshall took the loss for the Saints, striking out six Hounds in 5.0 innings pitched.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Saints left seven on base, while the Hounds left three. 
- Maryville commited three errors while UIndy had one. 
- UIndy stole two bases. 
- UIndy posted 27 put outs, while the Saints had 24.
