ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Caleb Vaughn is a bad bad man.

The University of Indianapolis baseball team was down 4-0 entering the bottom of the eighth but Vaughn capped off the magical rally with a homer over the left field fence.  With the 6-4 win over Rockhurst, the Hounds advance in the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament in St. Charles, Mo.

UIndy's previous meeting with the Hawks also came in the GLVC tournament with the Hounds defeating Rockhurst for the title back in 2016.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless seven innings the Hounds began to erupt at the plate. Starting with a RBI triple by Trey Smith, the Hounds went on to score three runs in the eighth.
 
Reid Werner started on the mound for the Greyhounds, striking out four and walking two in 7.2 innings pitched. Alec Burrnett (2-0) finished off the game in taking the win, striking out three and walking one in 1.1 innings pitched.
 
To lead off the ninth Brandon DeWitt singled up to middle, followed by Brian Keeney with an RBI single.  With the game knotted at four, Vaughn provided a walk-off home run and keep the Hounds tournament hopes alive.

Vaughn posted three hits on the day, including the home run, to lead the Hounds at the plate.
 
Jack Eisenbarger (9-2) took the loss for the Hawks after allowing five runs and eight hits in striking out seven in 8.1 innings pitched.

INS AND OUTS
-Both UIndy and Rockhurst tallied nine hits each, while Rockhurst had two errors and the Hounds had one.
-Rockhurst left eight ducks on the pond. The Greyhounds stranded four.

The number two seeded Hounds will advance to play the winner of Lewis and Illinois Springfield on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
