ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The University of Indianapolis Baseball team took their first loss in the Great Lakes Valley Tournament to the number one seeded Illinois Springfield on Friday night at the Lou Brock Complex falling 4-1 to the Prairie Stars.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Corey Bates (3-8) threw the complete game for the Hounds – striking out 11 and walking four. Bates' performance was top notch to say the least, throwing heat into the catcher's glove striking out Star one-by-one. The Hounds bench howled throughout the match, running for high-fives and pats on the backs for Bates at the end of each inning.
"
Corey Bates threw the ball today as good as I've ever seen him throw the ball," said Head Coach Al Ready. "To throw a complete game in the GLVC tournament and to not have to use bullpen arms is huge for us,"
The Hounds were led by catch
Isaac Bair who had an RBI and a hit.
"We just need to adjust a little bit better," Ready added. "If we can adjust to the plate better to what we see then we will put ourselves in a pretty good spot."
Blake Begner (7-1) led the Prarie Stars on the mound with five strikeouts and walked two. While Cameron Zunkel was credited with his third save for UIS.
INS AND OUTS
-The Hounds outhit UIS seven to six
- Both team committed two errors
UP NEXT
The Hounds will face Lewis tomorrow in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m. ET.
"It's going to be a dogfight," Ready spoke about the Flyers match. "We're looking forward to the opportunity."
