ST. CHARLES, Mo. – A complete game by
Myc Witty and stong offensive performance was the winning equation for the UIndy Greyhounds.
In their third game of the Great Lakes Valley Tournament the Greyhounds downed Lewis 7-1 at the Lou Brock Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Witty (1-5) threw all nine innings for the Hounds, giving up only one run on six hits. Tossing 133 pitches, the senior induced 17 flyouts and nine groundouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
John Carpinelli kicked off the game in the best way the first baseman knows how by hitting one out of right center, earning three RBI and giving the Hounds an early lead over the Flyers.
UIndy didn't let off the gas, scoring run after run until being up seven in the top of the seventh, when the Flyers found their offense with a homerun. That would be their only run of the game.
Carpinelli ended with four RBI – leading the Greyhounds. He was followed by
Trey Smith who posted two hits and one RBI.
Witty took his first win of the season for UIndy, and earned his second complete game in downing Lewis.
Jonathon Hanscom (5-4) took the loss for the Flyers striking out three and walking two.
