Surprise, AZ - The story of the 2020-2021 UIndy women's tennis team is already one of legendary status. Having swept three separate tournaments in the ITA DII Indoor, the GLVC, and the NCAA Regional, the Hounds are currently ranked No. 1 in the country. They are set to continue their epic journey in the NCAA Championships where they are lined up as the No. 1 seed.
To kick off the action on Wednesday May 19, they will face the 8th-seed out of San Antonio, the St. Mary University Ramblers who currently boast a 17-5 record and a No. 30 national ranking. They are led by a pair of top 50 singles in No. 24 Ashley Penshorn and No. 32 Maria Garcia.
The Hounds enter the match-up as one of the strongest teams that Head Coach
Malik Tabet has put together. With a 21-0 record, the Hounds are led in singles by
Nikol Alekseeva, the No. 1 singles player in the country. The Hounds double the Ramblers top 50 singles players with
Anna Novikova at No. 8,
Alina Kislitskaya at No.14 and
Kristina Lagoda sitting at No. 46.
Unlike the Ramblers the Hounds also dominate the doubles rankings with the pairings of Alekseeva and Novikova sitting at No. 1 after being undefeated all year. Kislitskaya and Lagoda are right behind at No. 3.
