Greyhounds Push Past Hawks to GLVC Final

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The No. 10 UIndy men's lacrosse team (9-2, 8-2 GLVC) entered the 2021 GLVC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament on Friday night as the second seed in the event, taking on the third-seeded No. 20 Rockhurst Hawks (8-5, 8-4) in the semifinal round. The Hounds held their opponent to a single-digit score for the eighth time in the 2021 season, advancing to their third-straight GLVC Finals appearance on a final score of 10-8.

INS & OUTS
The Greyhounds got the ball rolling with a hot start in the fourth quarter of play, the score being 4-1 in UIndy's favor after the first 15 minutes of action. The offense was firing on all cylinders, four different student-athletes being credited to the four goals in the first quarter. Austin Barnett was near-perfect in that timespan as well, saving four out of the Hawks' five shots on goal that they tossed at the Hounds' net. The second quarter didn't see much action from either program, but 2021 GLVC Specialist of the Year Kyle Basch was able to provide a perfect pass to freshman Wyatt Auyer, the duo placing the fifth goal for UIndy with only 37 seconds until the halfway point in the contest.

Rockhurst would tie back up the score in the third quarter, knocking in the first two goals in the second half. That would be the closest the Hounds would allow the Hawks to get a lead in the game, UIndy finishing the third period with three unanswered goals from their own. Similar to how they ran their offense in the first half, the Greyhounds were able to have all three goals credited by three different student-athletes, Auyer and Andrew Simonich now holding a pair to their name each. Rockhurst tried to pull the game back in their favor in the final quarter of game, but the three-goal lead UIndy started with was too much as the Hawks railed 11 shots, only converting three.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Auyer becomes the first Greyhound freshman to lead the team in points (five) in a GLVC Tournament game.
- Barnett now has six contests this season with double-digit saves in a single contest with his 10 against Rockhurst.
- Auyer's four-goal performance is the third time this season the freshman has scored four or more goals in a single contest.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will take on top-seeded No. 11 Lindenwood for the 2021 GLVC Men's Lacrosse Championship, facing off against the Lions for a third time this season. The two programs will battle for the title on Saturday, May 8 at 9 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo., on Lindenwood's campus. The game was rescheduled to this time listed due to potential disruptive weather conditions.
