Hounds Take Runner-Up at Regional, Advance to DII Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UIndy men's golf team (283-289-292) Saturday secured a coveted spot at the upcoming NCAA DII Championships, taking second place among 16 teams at the Midwest/Central Regional this week. The Greyhounds were one of only four teams out of the regional to advance to Nationals, scheduled for May 17-21 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

"I couldn't be happier for our players and their families for us to be heading back to the national championship," beamed Head Coach Brent Nicoson. "I am so happy my guys get to experience the feeling of playing for a national title."

Led by senior Oliver Mast, the Hounds earned their sixth NCAA Championships berth under Nicoson and first since 2018. Mast improved his score each round, capped by a two-under 69 on Saturday. The Fortville, Ind., native finished the 54 holes at even par to tie for sixth place.

"Oliver has been so good for us all year," said Nicoson, "and he led us again today when we needed him the most. That's what leaders do and he came through in the clutch."

Fellow-upperclassmen Ian Carroll and Keegan Bronnenberg shared 13th in the 86-person field. Both carded a 74 in the final round – including an eagle from Bronnenberg on hole No. 9 – to finish at +3.

Senior Erik Edwards highlighted his week with a first-round 69 before finishing at +6 in a tie for 23rd. Junior Cam Carroll rounded out the Hounds scoring at +21 to tie for 69th.

UIndy will be joined at PGA National by Arkansas Tech, Washburn and region-champ Central Missouri. All four teams came into the week ranked in the top 20 by Golfstat. Luke Palmowski of Rogers State qualified as an individual.

"We have played at PGA National before and it's a great-but-demanding golf course," Nicoson added. "We can't wait to get down there and get started. I believe in my guys and look forward to seeing what we can do."
