ALLENDALE, Mich. – The UIndy men's golf team began its 2026-27 season this week, competing at the Midwest/Central Regional Preview. Held at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.—site of the NCAA Regional this spring—the Greyhounds placed 12th among the 18-team field. Freshman Jacoby Schmidlapp led the way, finishing at +10 over 54 holes to share 34th place.

Schmidlapp carded score of 73-78-72 in his collegiate debut. He saved his best for last,  jumping up 18 spots on the leaderboard to close the week with a one-over 72 on the par-71 course.

Senior Alexander Nestun (+11) and freshman Noah Johnson (+12) followed, placing 44th and 47th, respectively. Nestun's best effort came during a +2 second round, while Johnson's second-round 68 marked the low score for a Greyhounds for the week.

Senior Joseph Armfield (+15) managed an eagle on the 526-yard fourth hole on Monday, while freshman Caden Matthias (+20) amassed five total birdies in his first collegiate event.

The 108-man tournament marked the first UIndy men's event for new head coach Steve Simmons.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds host the UIndy Fall Invitational next week. The tournament will run Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21-22 at Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis.
