HILLSDALE, Mich. – Running back
Toriano Clinton broke out for 270 yards and four touchdowns to lead the No. 12 Greyhounds to a 35-31 win at Hillsdale Saturday night. The jaw-dropping performance snapped the UIndy single-game rushing record, set back in 1965 by Jack Schuck (254).

INS & OUTS
Clinton picked an opportune time to script one of the most memorable games in UIndy football history as the Calumet, Ill., native helped the Hounds hold off the host Chargers and move to 2-0.
Â
After Hillsdale pulled within three earlier in the fourth quarter, UIndy went back to its star back, feeding Clinton eight times on the ensuing drive, capped by an eight-yard TD run – his fourth and final score of the game.
Â
The series also featured a clutch third-down conversion by tight end
Kevin McNelis, whom QB
Bryce Stancombe found barreling down the seam for a big 30-yard gain.
Â
Later in the quarter, the Greyhound D forced a punt before garnering its second interception of the night to keep it a two-possession game up until a harmless Hillsdale touchdown as time expired.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Clinton's night also featured the most carries by a Greyhound rusher since Eric Wright toted the rock 36 times at Mercyhurst in November of 2007.
- Second-year freshman
Alonzo Derrick corraled his second TD reception in as many weeks, hauling in a lengthy 75-yard catch-and-run in the first quarter. "Zo" finished with 178 all-purpose yards.
- Defensive backs
Larry Burks and
Kasyus Kurns each earned an interception – the former in the first quarter and the latter late in the fourth.
- Linebacker
Gavin Bane led the Hounds with eight tackles, while defensive end
