INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis volleyball team closed out day two of the UIndy Invitational on Saturday, facing GLVC foe Missouri S&T in non-conference action before taking on nationally-ranked Winona State in the night cap.  The Hounds suffered a five-set loss against Missouri S&T before falling to Winona State in four.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Missouri S&T
The Miners led by five late before the Hounds fought back to tie the score at 25 and force extra points.  A kill from Grace Hegwood fought off set point until a Miners service ace sealed the 28-26 win.

UIndy put their foot on the gas in the next two sets, posting wins of 25-14 and 25-13.  The Hounds recorded a .344 hitting percentage in the third set, committing just two errors to 13 kills.

The fourth set was a nailbiter as neither team was able to pull away.  Missouri S&T held a 23-19 lead before kills from Lauren Cullison and Hannah Huppenbauer cut the deficit to one.  The Miners recorded a pair of kills to take the set 25-23 and force a decisive fifth set.

Hegwood opened the fifth set with a kill but it was all Miners from there.  S&T pulled away with a 6-2 run en route to a 15-10 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hegwood tallied 17 kills followed by Huppenbauer and Cullison at 14 each.
- Gillian Santana recorded a trio of service aces.
- Santana, Hegwood and Makenna Barnhart each finished in double digit digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Winona State
The Hounds went toe-to-toe with #14 Winona State to close out the weekend.  UIndy opened the match with a 25-20 win in the first set, committing just two errors and boasting a .385 hitting percentage.  Trailing 4-3 early on, the Hounds exploded for a 12-2 run to pull away with a 15-6 lead.  The Warriors fought back to pull within three, but a kill from Lauren Cullison gave UIndy the first set victory.

UIndy led by three in the second set but the Warriors scored 13 of the next 15 points to take the second set 25-16.  Winona State controlled the final three sets, holding steady with a .325 hitting percentage to close out the match.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Cullison posted eight kills to finish with 59 kills in the last four matches.  She previously held a five-match streak with at least 10 kills.
- The Hounds recorded a season-high nine service aces with Barnhart, Hegood, Santana and Eads each contributing two.
 

UP NEXT
The Hounds remain home this week, hosting Tiffin in non-conference action on Tuesday.  UIndy opens GLVC play at home on Thursday against Truman.
