INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis volleyball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Thursday night with a their second straight 3-0 clean sweep. Thursday marked the first time in three meetings that the Hounds were victorious over Truman State University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set opened with a service ace from Gillian Santana and it was smooth sailing from there as the Hounds opened with a 25-16 first set victory. UIndy scored the final six points of the set while boasting a 0.333 hitting percentage.
Truman led 16-14 in the second set before Hannah Huppenbauer and Emma Jones halted the Bulldogs momentum with back-to-back kills. A quick 4-0 run gave the Hounds a 18-16 lead, and they never trailed from then on. Elizabeth Eads closed out the set with a kill on the assist from Alex Equihua for a 25-20 win.
Tied at eight in the final frame, the Hounds rattled off four points to jump to a 12-8 lead. Jones tallied back-to-back kills in the run accompanied by Huppenbauer. MaKenna Barnhart served up an ace to seal the 25-16 set win as well as the 3-0 sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jones and Grace Hegwood led the offense with 12 and 11 kills respectively.
- Huppenbauer dished out three blocks.
- Equihua recorded 34 assists.
- Barnhart paced the defense with 15 digs.
UP NEXT
The Hounds hit the road this weekend for their first road trip of the season in the continental US. UIndy will take on Southwest Baptist at 4 pm ET on Saturday.
