BOLIVAR, MO – The University of Indianapolis volleyball team opened the first week of GLVC play undefeated, picking up a 3-0 win at Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon. The win puts the Hounds not only at 2-0 in GLVC play, but also back above .500 at 6-5 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Late in the first set UIndy trailed 24-22 but fought off set point with a kill from Hannah Huppenbauer. A kill from Lauren Cullison and Emma Jones gave the Hounds a 25-24 advantage to force extra points. Another kill from Huppenbauer put UIndy ahead at 27-26 before an attacking error from the Bearcats gave UIndy the 28-26 win.
UIndy cruised to a second set victory, 28-15. A 9-0 run midway thru allowed the Hounds to pull away. Gillian Santana served up a pair of aces in the run.
Southwest Baptist led 23-21 in the third set until Grace Hegwood tallied back-to-back kills to even the score at 23. Tied once again at 24, Elizabeth Eads put the Hounds ahead with a kill before a Bearcats attack error provided the Hounds with the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Huppenbauer and Hegwood both recorded 12 kills.
- Eads paced the Hounds with four blocks.
- Alex Equihua dished out 35 assists.
- MaKenna Barnhart tallied 19 digs.
UP NEXT
The Hounds remain on the road next week, traveling to Springfield, IL to take on Illinois-Springfield at 8 pm ET. UIndy returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
