LEBANON, Ill. – Seven minutes, and three goals. That's all it took for the Greyhounds to defeat the number one GLVC picked team, Mckendree, 3-2. Led by
Kiki Sauceda, who came into the match tied third in the Nation for goals per game, who had two goals and an assist.
After a scoreless first half, the Greyhounds kicked into gear nearly into the 50th minute, an
Elena Espinosa shot on goal was deflected back to the feet of
Kiki Sauceda, who then in a swift movement scored the Hounds first goal and her fifth of the season. Then in the 54
th minute, a Sauceda pass to
Alexi Hardie and quick movements, landed the Hounds second. Followed by another Sauceda rocket, assisted again by
Elena Espinosa, into the Bearcats low left corner in the 57
th minute, the Hounds pulled out of reach for the Bearcats.
"I was very impressed by Espinosa today," said Head Coach,
Holly Cox. "She played a big part in all three goals,"
While McKendree began to creep back, it simply wasn't enough to catch the Hounds who dominated offensively with seven shots on goal off 13 attempts. Defensively,
Maddie Barkow and
Dana Youssef posted a pair of shots on goal their selves, while
Sophia Saucerman manned the goal for the Hounds, making five saves and allowing two goals.
"We need to work on consistency," Cox added. "We need to play a full 90 minutes, it will be important this Friday against a good Lewis side,"
McKendree was led by Reagan Mauch who had three shots, all on goal, and one goal. Abby Tucker was in net for the Bearcats, making four saves.
