KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The UIndy volleyball team (10-6, 3-2 GLVC) earned a thrilling five-set victory at Truman (1-13, 1-5 GLVC) on Saturday evening, reverse sweeping the Bulldogs after trailing by a pair of sets early.
Â
The reverse sweep is the Greyhounds' second of the team, who first accomplished the feat in early September against Bentley.
Â
MaKenna Barnhart led a strong Greyhound defense, recording 19 digs and adding four service aces. Senior
Grace Hegwood paced the way offensively, finishing with 16 kills on .310 hitting from the outside.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, UIndy dominated the third set, limiting Truman to a paltry .021 attacking. A 5-1 stretch in the middle part of the frame gave the Greyhounds a commanding 16-11 advantage, before
Sophia Parlanti tallied a pair of kills late to cap the set win.
Â
Despite the tight score, the Greyhounds were in command most of the fourth, including a kill from
Elizabeth Eads to increase the lead to 20-16.
Hannah Sabotin sandwiched another Parlanti putaway to force a fifth and final set.
Â
UIndy earned six of its' fifth-frame points on the serve, with aces being supplied by Barnhart and Hegwood. The senior Hegwood also had half of the team's four kills in the game, as the defense forced four Bulldog attacking errors.
