Greyhounds Dominate SBU on Senior Day

INDIANAPOLIS - Senior day for the University of Indianapolis women's soccer team was a success to say the least. The Greyhounds unloaded a plethora of offense, sending four into the back of the net in their regular season home finale. With the win the Greyhounds moved to 5-5-4 on the season with two matches left before the conference tournament.

Prior to the action, the Greyhounds celebrated the group of seven seniors in Elisabeth Kessler, Elena Espinosa, Mady Meiring, Kiki Sauceda, Gracyn Montfort, Maria Herrero and Alexi Hardie.

INS AND OUTS
The first half was as exciting as it could be with the Greyhounds racking up three goals. The first had to be by a senior and Herrero was up to the task. At the 17th minute, some ball movement resulted in a pass from Sauceda right to Herrero who, with a studder step, crushed the ball over the goalkeeper for the first of the contest.

The Hounds did not stop there as the Birthday girl Maddy Theis got her first goal of her career off a corner kick at the 20th minute. But the onslaught did not stop there as just 23rd minute Sarah Wegener got on the board with a boom from 10 yards out to put the score at 3-0.

That score held going into the second half, but like clockwork the Greyhounds found the back of the net once again. Herrero made it a two-goal day with a header into the net at the 47th minute. That 4-0 score would hold through the end of the contest, allowing the Hounds to snag their second home conference win of the season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Greyhounds controlled the offensive pace, taking 25 shots while the Bearcats tallied six. Eleven of UIndy's attempts were on target.
- SBU committed more fouls on Sunday, as the visitors were whisleted 13 times.
- The Hounds were issued a pair of yellow cards, with both Hardie and Wegener booked during the win.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach Holly Cox on the senior day festivities…
"For senior day you always see it as an exciting day, but it's also really sad. I mean, these seniors have put in blood sweat and tears over there for years, if not five years for some of them careers. They're a great group and that will for sure miss them."

Cox on the win against SBU…
"The offense really played together as a team, I feel like in previous games, we've been very individual when in certain aspects of the field. Today, it clicked as a group and that's what is needed. In order to score goals, you can't rely on one, two or three people, it's a full team effort. Even the ladies that came off the bench made an impact in the game today."
Kessler on the emotions of senior day…

Kessler on the emotions of senior day...
"I already cried two times, because I have family coming from the other side of the country. I'm with my team for the last time on Key and it's really emotional. This is my fourth year and it's been a very emotional day but I'm really glad we got to win the day just to make it full circle."
