ST. LOUIS – A second half scoring outburst of five goals guided the University of Indianapolis men's soccer team into a 5-1 victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Friday night at Don Dallas Soccer Field. With the win, the Greyhounds have now won seven straight matches dating back to Sept. 30 of this season. The Hounds sit at 9-2-3 overall on the season with a 6-2-2 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
Out of the five goals scored by UIndy, the duo of
Bryan Moreira and
Cole Rainwater each corralled two goals while
Ibo Yilmaz scored the other. Moreira, Rainwater, Yilmaz, and
Caleb Mundell each added one assist in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A trio of high quality saves by goalkeeper
Joey Schrand kept UMSL off the board in the first 45 minutes of play and sent the game scoreless into the halftime locker room. Both teams were nearly identical on total shots in the opening half, with UIndy having six and the Tritons five. The big difference was seen in corner kicks, which saw UIndy collect seven and UMSL just two.
The second half was a different story, which saw a combined total of six goals land in the back of the net beginning in the 55th minute when Mundell floated a cross into the box that met the head of Moreira and found its way into the side wall of the net.
A short time later in the 67th minute, Rainwater scored on a ball he corralled that deflected off the keepers gloves. Despite this, UMSL found the scoreboard in the 75th minute to cut its deficit in half.
UIndy put the match away near the end of the half on a trio of goals in a short span of time. In the 77th minute, Moreira netted his second goal of the night off a rebound he collected on his own deflected shot. Moments later in the 79th minute, Rainwater put his second of the night in goal after he beat the defense in a foot race on a ball he received from Yilmaz. Finally in the 83rd minute, Yilmaz landed a header past the keeper to finish off an eventful night of scoring for UIndy.
