Osuna’s School Record Highlights Split at McKendree

O'FALLON, Ill. – The UIndy swimming & diving teams traveled to GLVC-rival McKendree Friday, with the No. 4 Greyhound women earning a 194-104 victory and the top-ranked men falling 151-145.

The host Bearcats came into the weekend ranked No. 2 on the men's side and 15th on the women's in the CSCAA Division II Dual Meet Rankings. And despite a number of their top swimmers back in Indy at the FINA Swimming World Cup, the Greyhounds still managed to earn a split, with the men's final score in doubt until the very last race.

The highlight of the day came on the boards, as All-American Julio Osuna etched his name in the UIndy record book. The Tijuana, Mexico native won the 3-meter event with an impressive 407.33, setting a new six-dive mark.

Osuna also took first on the 1-meter board, with teammate Jason Lenzo placing second on both. On the women's boards, Mikaela Starr won the 3-meter and placed second on the 1-meter.

In the lap pool, Johanna Buys racked up four wins – two individuals and two relays. She was joined by Leticia Vaselli and Julia Magierowska on both the 200 medley and 400 free relay victories.

Kaitlyn McCoy touched first in the 200 and 500 free races, improving her B-cut time with a 1:52.97 in the former. Freshman Hanna Burke won the 100 fly and the 200 IM.

The men's 200 medley relay team of Jeron Thompson, Brayden Cole, Serge Ahadzhanian and Diego Mas outraced the Bearcats. Mas went on to win the 50 free with a time of 20.17.

Other event winners on the men's side included Joao Silva (100 free), Stanislaw Chalat (1000 free) and Bartek Swiderski (200 back). Thompson notched a B-cut time in the 100 back (48.91) and missed a first-place finish by just .02.

The final race, the men's 400 free, was also a tight one. With the team win still up for grabs, the Greyhounds combined for a time of 2:59.56 but were out touched by .35 seconds.
