INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis baseball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday afternoon to (RV) Northwood at Beech Grove High School. The Hounds fall to 3-2 on the season with the losses.
Â
GAME 1 | NU 11, UIndy 6
Northwood clawed out ahead in game one 3-0 through four innings before the Hounds added two in the bottom half of the inning off a
Denton Shepler sacrifice fly and
Adam Rakestraw RBI single. Despite this UIndy resurgence into the contest, the Timberwolves rolled out three runs through the next three innings to take a firm hold once again. A strong Greyhound effort of four runs in the bottom of the eighth wasn't enough as the Timberwolves notched five in the ninth to eventually secure the victory.
Â
The duo of
Alex Vela and
Drew Donaldson guided the Hounds on offense with two hits apiece.
Caleb Vaughn, Vela, Donaldson, Shepler, and Rakestraw all notched an RBI in the contest.
Â
Xavier Rivas received the start from the bump where he went six complete innings of work with 12 strikeouts while only allowing three hits.
Chaney Morgan,
Brady Mundell, and
Austin Bestul all saw action from the mound.
Â
Game 2 | NU 5, UIndy 4
Two home runs in the third inning jumped Northwood out in front 3-0 to begin the game. Needing an offensive spark, Vela delivered for UIndy after crushing a solo homer of his own in the sixth to trim into the deficit. The Timberwolves went on to score once in the seventh and eighth innings while the Greyhounds came up just short after crossing two in the seventh off an
Isaac Bair two-run home run and once in the ninth with a Bair sacrifice fly.
Â
Seven different Hounds had one hit in the contest to lead the team from the plate. Bair guided the way with his three RBI's while Vela trailed behind with his one.
Â
Kase Lawson earned the start in the loss, going three complete where he allowed four hits while striking out three batters.
Mike MacDougall and
Alec Burnett each notched a pair of strikeouts in their time on the mound while
Carter Nowak and
Wyatt Phillips saw action in the game as well.
