Greyhounds Split Doubleheader with Lake Erie

INDIANAPOLIS- The University of Indianapolis baseball team split a doubleheader with Lake Erie on Sunday afternoon on campus at Greyhound Park. Today marked the return for Landon Hutchison, who previously coached here at UIndy and now leads the Storm as the head coach.

GAME 1 | UIndy 26, LEC 0 (7 innings)
Xavier Rivas had little problems on the bump and kept his double-digit strikeout streak going in the process. Today, Rivas sat down 14 batters (new UIndy career-high) while only allowing five hits and one walk through the full seven innings. Through four appearances and 29 complete innings of work this season, he has tallied a staggering 50 K's.

The Greyhounds found the scoreboard early in the first inning when Brandon DeWitt brought home a runner from third on an infield single. UIndy plated two more a few batters later when Hunter Hughes notched an RBI single on a hit to center field.

Patient and efficient offense led the Hounds into a strong stretch of play which put the game out of reach early. The Hounds went on to cross five in the second, four in the third, eight in the fifth, and six in the sixth.

In total, the Lake Erie pitching staff walked 21 batters. The Greyhounds only managed nine hits in the contest despite the 24 runs crossing the plate.

Drew Donaldson, in his first game against his former team, tallied a game-high five RBI's and four runs scored. DeWitt and Zach Williams each corralled four RBI's apiece while Hughes had three himself. In total, nine different Greyhounds had one hit.

GAME 1 | UIndy 26, LEC 0 (7 innings)
Game two was a completely ballgame, with Lake Erie crossing two in the opening inning, another in the second, and two more in the fourth to take a convincing lead early on. It took UIndy until the fourth to find the scoreboard where DeWitt crushed a solo shot over the right field wall.

Still trailing by four runs, Caleb Vaughn helped the Hounds close the gap a little more with a solo home run of his own in the fifth over the left field fence. However, LEC answered with a run of its own in the sixth.

UIndy followed up in the bottom half of the sixth when Denton Shepler began the scoring with a line drive hit past the first baseman scoring the runner on second. This sparked a huge inning for the Hounds who crossed four more which helped the team take ahold of the lead.

Despite this huge inning, the Storm answered the call back and produced three runs in the seventh to reclaim the lead. The Hounds would eventually claw back with a run in the eighth off an Armen Torosian RBI single, but UIndy would strand the bases loaded to end the inning. This proved to be crucial as the Storm held on to claim the victory.

The trio of Vaughn, DeWitt, and Torosian all tallied two hits apiece. Will Spear led the team with two RBI's.

Logan Peterson earned the start, throwing 2-2/3 innings. Alec Burnett was tabbed as the losing pitcher in the contest.
