INDIANAPOLIS- The University of Indianapolis baseball team fell in a doubleheader with Purdue Northwest at Greyhound Park on Tuesday afternoon. With both losses, the Hounds fall to 5-9 on the season.
Â
GAME 1 | PNW 7, UIndy 3 (7 innings)
The Pride found the scoreboard early with a stretch of three-straight innings (third through the fifth) where they were able to cross runs to take a small 4-0 lead.
Â
UIndy finally pushed a run home in the fifth when
Bo Minor took ahold of a pitch and sent it over the left field wall, his first of the year.
Â
Chipping away slowly at the deficit, the Hounds produced two more runs in the sixth. An error on a
Zack Williams at-bat led to the first run followed up by
Denton Shepler hitting an infield groundout which led to an RBI. However, despite the late game heroics, PNW rolled in three across the plate in the top half of the seventh which ended up being the difference maker.
Â
Seven different Greyhounds had one hit to lead the team on offense. The trio of Minor, Shepler, and Williams all garnered one RBI.
Brandon DeWitt earned the start on the bump and was eventually tabbed as the losing pitcher.
Â
GAME 2 | PNW 18, UIndy 7 (7 innings)
The Pride jumped out ahead with force by scoring in all but one inning. The Hounds answered with four single runs and a three-run homerun throughout the contest, but this was not nearly enough to catch up.
Â
Shepler was a bright spot on offense, corralling a team-high three hits and four RBI's which included the three-run homer in the final inning.
Kase Lawson garnered the start on the mound and was tabbed as the losing pitcher.
